Arrington, Others Among Seesmic Investors

by Ed Sutherland on April 4, 2008

ArringtonMichael Arrington, the blogger who’s brand is all over the popular tech site TechCrunch, is among some high-profile names funding online video chat company Seesmic. Seesmic Friday acquired Twhirl, the No. 1 Twitter client. The move will enable Twitter, Pownce and Jaiku users to conduct video conversations without needing a browser.

Although no financial terms were disclosed as part of the most recent acquisition, Arrington, Dave Winer, Jeff Pulver, Steve Case, Martin Varsavsky, Ron Conway, Steve Garfield, Mark Pincus, and Jeff Clavier were among the names who took part in Seesmic’s $6 million Series A funding, according to Private Equity Hub.

TechCrunch described Arrington’s involvement as “minor.” The Thursday pre-announcement by blogger Mark Hendrickson said TechCrunch would not comment on the acquisition beyond a link to Seesmic founder Loic Le Meur’s blog and video.

PaidContent’s Staci Kramer described the transaction as an “acq-hired” because Twhirl creator Marco Kaiser will join Seesmic’s team.
